Giant Step Launches Online Newspaper Edition - TheDishToronto.com

TORONTO, ON, January 1, 2006 — Giant Step is launching this week an online edition of The Dish, a bi-weekly print publication going to all 100+ Toronto high schools. The Toronto-based magazine recently reached its one-year milestone and is now expanding its distribution via the web..

The Dish is the only newspaper focusing on basketball and high school life in Toronto. The paper is written by students for students, with personal accounts of teenage life in the city. With a circulation of 22,000 printed copies going to all Toronto high schools, the paper has been growing in popularity over the last year, especially among active basketball and fashion enthusiasts.

“TheDishToronto.com is designed to become a central media platform for the high school demographic (13-19 year old). The web site will function both as a multimedia news source covering high school news and events, as well as an online community for students to exhibit ideas, opinions, and artwork” says Gil Katz, managing partner of Giant Step, an interactive agency in Toronto.

The web site features many activities for teens including games, contests, discussion forums, personal pages, columnist blogs, article reviews, music, videos, and more. Keeping the site in tune with the community, The Dish offers a calendar of high school events and, with permission, includes photographs of students at the events online, in anticipation of increased viral activity. The back issue archive will include all issues since October 2004.
